The Damascus airport (Arabic مطار دمشق الدولي, DMG Matar Dimašq ad Dawlī; IATA: DAM, ICAO code: OSDI ) is an international airport in Damascus, capital of Syria. The airport has in addition to the civil and a military use area. The airport was opened in 1973 and it is the busiest of the three international airports in Syria. In 2000, the airport recorded a traffic of 1.7 million passengers on 24,500 takeoffs and landings. In 2004, the airport was used by 3.2 million passengers.

The airport currently has a capacity of 3.5 million passengers. There are plans and negotiations with French companies to modernize the airport and expand. By 2014, the capacity will be increased to 5 million and by 2020 to 10 million passengers.

The distance from the town center on the way over to the east suburb Dscharamana airport is about 30 kilometers. State Shuttle buses run regularly from Baramka in the center of the New Town.

In Terminal located next to a duty-free shop, which is known for its cheap prices, an internet café, several gift shops, three restaurants, and a business / first class lounge.

The airport is the main hub of Syrian Arab Airlines, the national airline of Syria. Furthermore, the airport is served by many other airlines from Africa, Asia and Europe.
