Damasta, Heraklion

Damasta (Greek Δαμάστα (n. sg. ) ) Is a village on the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete. Together with Astrino it forms a village in the municipality of Tylissos the community Malevizi.

History

The first mention as Dhamásta by Francesco Barozzi dated to the year 1577.

During the Second World War there was an act of sabotage perpetrated to prevent German forces from attacking Anoghia on 8 August 1944. In retaliation, the Germans executed on 21 August 1944 at the command of General Friedrich -Wilhelm Müller 30 male residents of the village.
