Damat Ibrahim Pasha

Damat İbrahim Pasha († July 10, 1601 in Belgrade ) was a Bosniak and Ottoman military leader and statesman, 1596-1601 thrice Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire.

He was originally from Bosnia but grew up in Istanbul. In 1582 he was Beylerbey of Rumelia, in 1583 by Egypt, the Ottoman province was at that time. In May 1586 he married Ayşe Sultan, Sultan Murad III 's daughter. and since then was nicknamed Damat (also Damad; Turkish " son ").

In April 1596 he was appointed for the first time the Grand Vizier; shortly after, he embarked on a campaign to Hungary, where he conquered the city of Eger. In the winter of the same year he was first replaced as the Grand Vizier Sinan Pasha by Cigalazade Yusuf, gained his position but after only about 45 days, on 5 December 1596 back. However, less than a year later he fell as a result of inept staff policy and led by him murder of Krimkhans Fetih Giray in disgrace; as yet were added disagreements with the Sultan mother, he was deposed on November 3, 1597 for the second time. Again, about a year later, on January 6, 1599, he was appointed for the third time Grand Vizier. On October 23, 1600, he captured the important fortress of Kanizsa, which earned him the assurance of his office for life. However, this did not last long, because in the summer of the following year he retired to a disease to which he succumbed in Belgrade after five days of fever on 10 July 1601.
