Dame (title)

Dame ( English pronunciation: [ deɪm ] ) is the corresponding to the knight in males name for females, such as in

  • Sovereign Order of Malta
  • Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem

Etymology

The term lady was taken over from the French, where he carries the meaning of " mistress " or " wife ", also see Madame. The origin of the French word lady is seen in the Latin term dominant " mistress ".
