Damian Marley

Damian Robert Nesta Marley Jr. Gong called ( born July 21, 1978 in Kingston) is a Jamaican reggae musician. He is the youngest son of Bob Marley and the former " Miss World " Cindy Breakspeare. The name " Jr. Gong "he adds in reference to the nickname of his father's " Tuff Gong ".

Style

Unlike most of his brothers Damian Marley music not only limited to the domain of his father, the roots reggae, but also processed numerous other influences, mainly from Dancehall and R'n'B. Life

For a long time he worked as a DJ and started making music at the age of 13, first founded together with sons of other famous reggae musician band The Shepherds, later both with his Marley brothers as well as a successful solo artist. With the record label Tuff Gong, which was founded by Bob Marley and his band The Wailers, he released his first album Mr. Marley in 1996. His brother Stephen Marley was involved as a producer and co-writer instrumental. For his second album, Halfway Tree, as well as his third album Welcome To Jamrock he won the 2002 and 2006 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

His most recent album Distant Relatives, he recorded together with Nas. The title refers primarily to their common African origin. The proceeds from the album will be used to build schools in the Congo.

Welcome To Jamrock

Welcome To Jamrock was the song that Damian Marley to break through and general recognition in the reggae scene. He made the " Worldjam riddim " by Ini Kamoze so popular that many tracks used this riddim in a very short time from the reggae, Jungle/Drum-and-Bass- and hip-hop scene.
