Damm, Parchim

Dam is a municipality in the district of Ludwigsburg pleasure Parchim in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is administered by the Office Parchimer surrounding headquartered in Parchim.

Geography and transport

The community is located approximately six kilometers northwest of Parchim in the flat Eldeniederung. Through the municipal area, the Müritz- Elde waterway flows. North of the Elde is located northwest of Malchow a large forest area with the Forsthof Malchow. Notable elevations do not exist in the municipality. Only the extreme northeast exceed the heights 60 m above sea level. NHN.

The community is located south of state road 321 and north of Federal Street 191 Federal Highway 24 ( 17 km) can be reached via the junction Parchim. East of the village is located the airport Schwerin - Parchim.

History

The place name probably derives from the Slavic word for oak Dabu. So dam means Eichenort.

Dam was first mentioned in 1249. In 1991 lived in the village of 419 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • Eldeniederung: The area extends between dam and Matzlow -Garwitz and consists of an alder swamp forest with extensive reed areas and gray willow scrub. It is the habitat for a rich variety of bird life and has small places fen vegetation.
