Damme Priory

The priory of St. Benedict Damme is a Benedictine monastery in the Lower Saxon town of Damme in Oldenburger Munsterland.

The monastery was founded in 1962 by monks from the Abbey Muensterschwarzach. It was built on the grounds of a former farm, which was donated to the foundation of a convent. 1966, a boarding school was opened with ten students in rented rooms. 1971 was able to move to the grounds of the convent boarding school in newly built building. After only ten years, the boarding school was closed for lack of demand again. The boarding house was converted into a guesthouse, a larger chapel was built and the farmstead as well as the lands of the farm were leased. The construction of a church is still in the planning stage.

2004 volunteers built a maze in a small wooded area in front of the monastery.

Today ( 2012) live in the monastery Benedictine 8. You operate the guest house for courses and retreats, as well as a monastery shop. The guest house has records on about 13,000 overnight stays per year.
