Dan Jansen

Daniel Erwin " Dan " Jansen ( born June 17, 1965 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ) is a former American professional skater.

Through his sister Jane, Dan Jansen was inspired to start skating. In his first start at 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo, he was sixth over 500 meters and fourth over 1000 meters. Four years later he was in Calgary as a favorite for the 500 meters and 1000 meters. On the day of the race over 500 meters his sister Jane died of leukemia. Dan Jansen finished the race with a fall. Also over 1000 meters he could a few days later not finish the race and was eliminated by a fall from.

Also in 1992 at the Games in Albertville he was his favorite role can not be fairly and again remained without a medal. At the Winter Games in Lillehammer in 1994, he won the coveted gold medal in the final race of his career. About 1000 meters he won in world record time.

After his career as an athlete Jansen was commentator for NBC and founded the Dan Jansen Foundation for the fight against leukemia.
