Dan Kildee

Timothy Daniel " Dan " Kildee ( born August 11, 1958 in Flint, Michigan) is an American politician. Since 2013 he represents the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Dan Kildee is the nephew of former Congressman Dale E. Kildee. He studied at the branch of the University of Michigan in Flint and then at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. Later he hit as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1977 and 2009 he held various local offices at the district level. He also founded the Genesee County Land Bank. He was also co-founder and managing director of the Center for Community Progress, a means for regional development. From 1977 to 1985 he was a member of the Education Committee of the town of Flint; 1985 to 1997 he was a member of the District Council in Genesee County. After that, he was from 1997 to 2009 the district treasurer. In 2010 he applied initially to his party's nomination for the upcoming gubernatorial election. He withdrew his candidacy but soon returned.

In the congressional elections of 2012 Kildee was in the fifth electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded his uncle took on January 3, 2013, who had no longer a candidate. In the election, he defeated his Republican opponent Jim Slezak with 65 percent of the vote.

Dan Kildee is married and father of three children. Private family lives in Flint.
