Dan Mica

Daniel Andrew " Dan " Mica ( born February 4, 1944 in Binghamton, New York) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1989 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Daniel Mica is the younger brother of John Mica, who represents the seventh constituency of Florida in Congress since 1993. The younger Mica attended until 1950, the Horace Mann School in his native Binghamton. Later he graduated from Miami Edison High School in Florida. Until 1961 he studied at the University of Florida in Gainesville and then to 1966 at the Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Between 1966 and 1968 he worked as a teacher in Florida and Maryland. From 1968 to 1978 he was on the staff of Congressman Paul G. Rogers.

Unlike his brother, who belongs to the Republicans, Daniel Mica is a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1978 he was in the eleventh district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Paul G. Rogers on January 3, 1979. After four elections he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1989 five legislative sessions. Since 1983 he represented there as a successor of Claude Pepper the 14th district of his state. During his time in Congress, Mica was also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In 1988, Mica gave up another run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for election to the U.S. Senate, which went instead to Buddy MacKay. After retiring from Congress was Mica member and vice president of the American Council of Life Insurance. This office he held until 1996. In July 1996, he became CEO of the Credit Union National Association. Daniel Mica is married and has four children.
