Dana K. Chipman

Dana K. Chipman ( born September 23, 1958) is a Lieutenant General in the U.S. Army and military lawyer. He's since 2 October 2009, the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army.

Military career

Colonel Chipman was to 2007 as Staff Judge Advocate of the U.S. Central Command, chief lawyer of the Regional Command, used under the command of General John P. Abizaid and Admiral William J. Fallon. He then took over under appointment as Brigadier General in Charlottesville, Virginia, in command of the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, the School of Army military lawyers.

In July 2009 he was nominated for the post of Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army. This nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Chipman skipped a grade and was promoted to Lieutenant General.

Chipmans thesis at the U.S. Army War College from 2003 and is entitled Countering Terrorism in the Heartland - Can We Afford Posse Comitatus Any Longer? (German counter-terrorism in the interior - Posse Comitatus Should be maintained? ), in which he dealt with the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the armed forces to take over police duties in the domestic jurisdiction. He comes in to the conclusion that this law is no longer appropriate.
