Danfung Dennis

Danfung Dennis is a photo journalist, war correspondent and documentary filmmaker.

Danfung Dennis is the child of Minfong Ho, a Chinese- American writer, and John Value Dennis, Jr., an American soil scientist. In 2004 he completed his studies at Cornell University, "Applied Economics and Business Management". His work as a freelance photojournalist began for the Associated Press office in Beijing. Dennis worked as a freelance photojournalist in the war in Afghanistan since 2006. In 2007 he spent six months in Iraq. His photos were published in magazines and newspapers such as Newsweek, TIME, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Der Spiegel and The Wall Street Journal.

He spent four weeks in July 2009 with the U.S. Marines Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment as an accredited photojournalist for The New York Times. The result was Dennis' first documentary Hell and Back Again. The change from Photojournalism arose from a " frustration " over the photojournalism, which Dennis grabbed cinematic means to " awaken " the people on the subject of the war in Afghanistan. For his documentary, he won the Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and the "Silver St. George " at the Moscow International Film Festival 2011. Moreover, he was on 24 January 2012 with the film for an Oscar in the category " Best Documentary " nominated.

In September 2010, Dennis founded the company Condition ONE. This developed an app for the iPad, in the 360 ° video recording can be viewed interactively.
