Dani Karavan
Dani Karavan Hebrew דני קרוון ( born December 7, 1930 in Tel Aviv) is an internationally renowned sculptor and designer of large-sized, walk-in artworks that land art are sometimes attributed.
Work
In the 1960s and 1970s designed Karavan numerous stage sets, including for the Martha Graham Dance Company.
In Cergy -Pontoise designed Karavan 1980, the Axe Majeur, a distance of three kilometers long, sculptural landscape axis with twelve thematic stations as identity system for the satellite town of Cergy- Pontoise near Paris. 1988/93 created the Karavan outdoor sculpture The Way of Human Rights ( The Way of Human Rights ) as an architectural art of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg.
In 1990, the Karavan circular cast iron sculpture " Tzaphon " for the forecourt of the State Parliament of North Rhine -Westphalia in Dusseldorf done. The sculpture is a slightly inclined, in the forecourt half sunken, circular disk, embedded centrally in the two railroad tracks. Between the railroad tracks water runs down the inclined plane. In the circular shape of the sculpture corresponds with the structuralist architecture of the Parliament building, opened in 1988.
1990/94 created Karavan in the Catalan village Portbou the monument " passages " of Walter Benjamin.
In 1994 he designed on behalf of the French State in Gur a Mémorial national ( National Memorial ). It was erected in memory and reminder of the infringement committed by the Vichy regime in Camp de Gurs wrong. The memorial consists of three parts: A 180 meter long rail track, which was not present, however, during the storage time, symbolizes the deportation from Germany to Gur. On the Neupfarrplatz in Regensburg Dani Karavan drew the floor plan of 1519 destroyed as part of the Regensburg Synagogue after the pogrom in the form of a walk- floor relief. Conceived as a meeting place of art with the name Misrach (Hebrew for 'East' ) was inaugurated on 13 July 2005. Karavan made in advance so high demands on the accuracy and surface finish of the concrete parts that almost all companies had orders rejected as " unworkable ".
Karavan has been invited to create a design for the memorial to the murdered by the Nazis, Roma and Sinti in Berlin.
