Daniel Batman

Daniel Batman ( born March 20, 1981 in Melbourne, Victoria, † June 26, 2012 near Darwin, Northern Territory ) was an Australian sprinter.

Life

Batman was in 2000 at the Australian delegation at the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, but was eliminated in Due to an injury he had sustained in the flow over 400 m, from an early age. Batman tried now in Rugby Union. After he had trained six months with the Brumbies, without being used, he returned to athletics.

In 2003 he was sixth in the 400m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham. At the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint- Denis in the same year he retired in the first round. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 it reached about 200 m the semi-finals and finished with the Australian team to fifth place in the 4 x 100 - meter relay. 2005 and 2008 respectively, he was Australian champion in the 200 m at the Australian National Championships.

Batman was married since 2001 with Nova Peris, who also belonged to the Australian Olympic Team in 2000, and had me her two children, a son and a daughter. The end of 2001 and again in October 2003, he interrupted each to support his athletic career financially to his family. In 2010, the couple separated; 2011, the marriage ended in divorce. With his later life companion he had a child who was born in 2011. On June 26, 2012 Batman died in a traffic accident near Darwin, when he lost control of his car. His colleague Matthew Shirvington praised him on Twitter as "the best all-around sprinter who has ever seen the Australia ", pole vaulter Steve Hooker called him " a true original ".

Daniel Batman was a direct descendant of John Batman, one of the founders of Melbourne.
