Daniel Danielis

Daniel Danieli ( baptized May 1, 1635 in Visé, † September 17, 1696 in Vannes ) was a Walloon bandmaster and composer of the Baroque from the Prince-Bishopric of Liège.

Life and work

Daniel DANIELIS was from December 11, 1657 organist at the Cathedral Lambert Liege. On June 20, 1658, he received the appointment as a singer and from 1662 as Kapellmeister in the service of the Duke Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg- Güstrow, he was there for twenty years worked. After that, he went to France. The application for the Kapellmeister at the Chapelle Royale in Versailles, in the succession also derived from his home nearby Henri Dumont was unsuccessful. So he worked from January 1684 until his death as Kapellmeister of the cathedral of Vannes.

He composed only in the then popular Italian style that was cultivated in Central Europe. From its multifaceted dimensions but only 72 one-to four-part motets have survived, everything else ( including fairs and the two stage works ) is lost. The extant motets, combine the Italian and French flavor, are considered to be lobbying for André Campra and François Couperin.
