Daniel Defert

Daniel Defert ( born September 10, 1937) is a French sociologist and AIDS activist.

Life

After school Defert studied sociology at the University of Clermont -Ferrand. Defert received after the end of his studies a job as a university professor at the University of Paris VIII Defert founded in 1984 AIDES, the first organization in France, which has undertaken the mission to increase the public awareness of the disease AIDS, and was until 1991 the first President. Occasion for its activities was the death of his life partner Michel Foucault on 25 June 1984.
