Daniel Edward Howard

Daniel Edward Howard ( * August 4, 1861 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Liberia, † July 9, 1935 in Monrovia ) was 1912-1920 President of Liberia.

After the outbreak of the First World War, he tried to preserve the neutrality of the country, although he tended to support the Allies, their African colonies surrounded Liberia. Despite the protest of the Germans, he allowed the French to operate a radio station in the capital Monrovia. Then the Germans sent in 1917 a submarine to attack the city, which moved to Howard, to take the side of the Allies and Germany to declare war.
