Daniel Gélin

Daniel Gélin ( born May 19, 1921 in Angers, † 29 November 2002 in Paris) was a French actor.

Life

Daniel Gélin graduated from a classical acting training and worked from 1940 equally active in the theater as well as on the screen. He achieved international fame by Max Ophuls ' film The dance, in which he played the young, unfortunate admirer of a mature woman. Besides Gérard Philipe and Yves Montand he was one of the most famous faces of the French post-war film, but did not achieve their cult status. He appeared in more than 170 films.

Again and again he returned also to the theater for which he worked not only as an actor but also as a director.

From 1945 to 1954 he was married to his colleague Danièle Delorme; with her, he formed one of the dream couple of French cinema. He was the father of actress Maria Schneider.
