Daniel Johns

Daniel Paul Johns ( born April 22, 1979 in Newcastle, NSW, Australia) is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band Silverchair, which he founded at the age of 14 years.

The first Silverchair album Frogstomp appeared in 1995. During most of the songs were co-written by him and his bandmates Ben Gillies on this album, he took over almost completely the songwriting of the following albums. The latest album Young Modern band Silverchair he published in spring 2007.

Especially during the period around 1999, when he was suffering from anorexia and depression and got around 2002 arthritis, his songs were influenced very personal and emotional. In 2005 he also published, along with producer Paul Mac under the name The Dissociatives an ( electric ) Pop CD.

On 31 December 2003 he married after three years of partnership Natalie Imbruglia. However, the marriage broke up in January 2008 due to the incompatibility between work and private life.

He was formerly a staunch vegan, while he is a vegetarian today. He also plays an active role in animal protection.
