Daniel Lorenz Salthenius

Daniel Salthenius (also: Daniel Lorenz Salthenius, Salthen; born March 16, 1701 marks ( Markin ) a village near Uppsala, † January 29, 1750 in Königsberg ) was a Swedish educator and Protestant theologian.

Life

The son of the preacher Lars Salthenius († 1734) had received the first instruction from his father. At age 13, he entered the University of Uppsala and is at that age supposed to be an alliance with the devil have closed, so that he should always have a full purse. 1719 he undertook an educational journey that would lead him to Germany. However, he was victim of a robbery and had to earn as a teacher of children respected families make a living for two years in Gothenburg.

In 1724 he was finally able to resume his studies at the University of Halle, a teacher there was at the Royal Pädagogium and 1728 Overseer of the Latin schools of the orphanage. After he had acquired in 1729 the degree of Master of Arts, he was an associate professor of logic and metaphysics at the University of Königsberg. In Konigsberg, he was rector of the cathedral school in 1731 Kneiphof - Königsberg and 1732 associate professor. After he was in 1733 received his doctorate in theology, he became a full professor of theology at the University of Königsberg.
