Daniel Maclise

Daniel Maclise RA ( born January 25, 1806, Cork, Ireland, † April 25, 1870 in Chelsea) was an Irish painter.

Life

Maclise studied at the local art school and in 1828 the Royal Academy of Arts ( London) accepted. Already in the following year he made ​​his debut with a Malvolio - Portrait (Shakespeare) at the annual Academy exhibition. The following year he exhibited portraits, and traveled to France. In 1831 he won the gold medal for his painting choice of Hercules. He also provided for the Fraser 's Magazine numerous sketches and cartoons as well as many pictures of seals.

In the Royal Academy of Arts, he was elected as a candidate member in 1835 and 1840 and a full member.

1844 and 1855 he visited Paris and in the latter year, Italy. In 1857 he completed a gallery of sketches from the history of the Norman conquest of England. In 1859 he went to Berlin to study the Stereochromie, and painted in this manner, the large wall paintings: The Meeting of Wellington and Blucher at the Belle Alliance and the death of Nelson (1864 completed ) in the Royal Gallery.

To his memory in 1981, the Art Association was named in Cork Maclise Art Society.
