Daniel Marcy

Daniel Marcy ( born November 7, 1809 in Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; † November 3, 1893 ) was an American politician. Between 1863 and 1865 he represented the State of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Daniel Marcy attended the public schools of his home and then went as a sailor at sea. Later he went into the shipbuilding business and began a political career. He became a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1854 and 1857 he was a member of the House of Representatives of New Hampshire; 1857-1858 he was a member of the State Senate. In the years 1858 and 1860, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in each case.

1862 Marcy was but then in the first district of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Gilman Marston on March 4, 1863. But since he lost to Marston already at the next elections in 1864, he had his mandate on March 3, 1865 at re-emit its predecessor. His time in Congress was overshadowed by the events of the Civil War. At that time the state of West Virginia was founded and incorporated into the Union. A year later, in 1864, also joined the Union Nevada.

In the years 1871 and 1872 Marcy was again a member of the Senate of New Hampshire, then he has pursued no further major political office. He died on November 3, 1893 in his native Portsmouth.
