Daniel Morrissey

Daniel Morrissey (Irish Domhnall Ó Muirgheasa, * in Nenagh, County Tipperary, † 1 January 1981) was an Irish politician of the Irish Labour Party, Cumann na nGaedheal and last of the Fine Gael.

Biography

Morrissey, who worked as an auctioneer, began his political career in 1922 with the election of deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ), in which he for the Irish Labour Party, first the interests of the constituency of Tipperary Mid, North and South and then 1923-1933 of Tipperary. During this time he was on May 2, 1928 to 1933 and Vice President of the Lower House ( Ceann Comhairle Leas ).

Then he represented the constituency of Tipperary from 1933 to 1937 as deputy of the Cumann na nGaedheal before he joined the Fine Gael and was elected to the House of Deputies for this. Between 1937 and 1948 he was also a member for Tipperary and then last from 1948 to 1957 for the constituency of North Tipperary.

At the same time he of Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) John A. Costello was appointed on 18 February 1948 to the Minister for Industry and Commerce in the cabinet after election success of the Fine Gael. In a cabinet reshuffle, he was then from March 7 to the end of Costello's term of office on June 13, 1951 Minister of Justice.

In 1957, he opted not to run again for the House and retired from the Dáil Éireann from.
