There he was, however, found wanting, and played almost the entire 2004/05 season for the youth department, before he concluded the season - celebrated his competitive debut - as the club long ago could not prevent relegation from the Regional.

The following season he initially garnered more game experience, to threw him back a tear in ligament. It was not until the following year he was able to conquer a place in the team and completed 34 of 36 possible games. This made him interesting for the coach of the German U-21 national team Dieter Eilts, who invited him and started in two games. In the same season with the Unionern he managed to qualify for the new third professional league. He himself was injured shortly before the end of the season but at the meniscus and was therefore not until early November 2008, his debut in the third division. At the end of the season, the team celebrated the return to the second division.

The second division 2009/10 season was less successful for Schulz. He lost both the captaincy ( to Marco Gebhardt ) as well as his place and came only five appearances. Therefore, he moved to the 2010/11 season for SV Sandhausen back to the third tier. There he belonged from the beginning again to the root cadres. In his second year at the Kurpfälzern with the team he managed the championship and for the second time in his career promotion to the second highest football class.
