Daniel Sedin

Daniel Sedin ( born September 26, 1980 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks.

Career

Daniel Sedin began his career in the youth team MoDo Hockey in the Swedish junior league. In 1997 he was transferred to the professional team and played from then on in the Elitserien. In 1999, he was already one of the fixed sizes of the team and reached 42 points in 50 games. As a reward he received along with his twin brother Henrik Guldpucken as the best Swedish player of the year.

In the same year he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in second place. After another year in Sweden he went along with his brother, who was also drafted by the Canucks, to Vancouver in the NHL. There he was able to prevail immediately and reached in the 2003/04 season his hitherto best result this season with 54 points.

The 2004/05 season fell out due to the lockout and Daniel Sedin returned to Sweden, where he completed the season with MoDo Hockey. With the team including his brother, and Markus Naslund, who also played for Vancouver and Peter Forsberg.

In the fall of 2005 he returned to Vancouver, since the lockout ended and the season could take place in 2005/ 06. The so-called " Brothers Line" by Daniel and Henrik Sedin, as well as Anson Carter was the most successful series of the Canucks this year and even surpassing the series with the experienced Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Brendan Morrison. Daniel Sedin even managed 71 points in 82 games.

In February 2006, Daniel Sedin participated in the Olympic Winter Games in part with the Swedish ice hockey team and won the gold medal. At the World Championships in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki, he was again part of the national team and won the gold medal with this. At the Olympic Games in 2014 he won the silver medal with the Swedish national team.

Henrik and Daniel Sedin were both selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the first round by the Vancouver Canucks. Daniel was drafted second, Henrik in third place.
