Daniel Sousa

Daniel Sousa ( born 1974 in Cape Verde ) is a Portuguese animator.

Life

Sousa was born in Cape Verde, but grew up in Portugal, near Lisbon. He moved with his family in 1986 in the United States. Here he studied at the Rhode Iceland School of Design animation and painting, and then spent six years in Boston in advertising. He settled down in 2001 in Providence.

Sousa was a founding member of the Handcranked Movie Project, which has the production of independent films directed. Sousa's first major success was the 2006 short animated film Fable, which was shown, among others, at the Sundance Film Festival and Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival and at the Festival d' Annecy animation was nominated in 2006 for the Cristal d' Annecy. For his short animated film Feral (2012 ) he received in 2014 along with Dan Golden nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Animated Short Film. Sousa is a lecturer in animation and has taught since 2001 at the Rhode Iceland School of Design; also taught at Harvard University and Wheaton College.
