Daniel the Stylite

Daniel Stylites (Greek: Ὁ Δανιὴλ ὁ Στυλίτης; * to 409 in Maratha at Samosata in Syria, † December 11 in 493 at Constantinople Anaplus Opel ) was Stylites and was canonized.

His feast day is December 11.

As a disciple of Symeon Stylites the Elder Daniel was introduced into the Säulenstehertum. With 47 years he built in Anaplus at Constantine Opel a column. On request, Emperor Leo I Daniel was ordained a priest against his will. Over 30 years he spent on his column, he has left only once in that time to be at church political struggles there. He was buried at the foot of his column.
