Daniel Widing

Daniel Widing ( born April 13, 1982 in Gävle) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is since April 2013 in the Espoo Blues in the SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Daniel Widing began his career at Hedemora SK, before moving to Leksand IF 1998. In this club, he went through the youth teams and made his debut during the season 1999/2000 for the men's team in the Elitserien. He also won the U18 team of his club the championship of the U18 Allsvenskan.

During the NHL Entry Draft in 2000, he was selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round as the No. 36, but remained until 2003 Leksand IF. At the end of the season 2001/ 02 he managed with this team to rise from the HockeyAllsvenskan back in the Elitserien.

Between 2003 and 2006 he competed in the highest Finnish league, the SM- liiga for Pelicans Lahti and the TPS Turku. Shortly before the playoffs of the 2005 /06 Widing returned to Sweden and was taken from Brynäs IF from his hometown under contract.

In the seasons 2007/ 08 and 2008/ 09 he was top scorer with 23 goals in each of his team. Due to these achievements he received in May 2009, a two - year contract with HC Davos. For Davos he scored 38 points scorer in 51 season games. His contract was terminated in the summer of 2010 and moved to Widing Djurgårdens IF. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his former club Brynäs IF.

Internationally

Widing began early in his career, to represent his native Sweden in international tournaments. He took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 2000 and the U-20 World Youth Championship in 2001 and 2002.

For the Men's National Team in 2007, he completed his first international match and made it into the squad for the 2008 World Championship, where he completed three games. A year later he was one of the candidates for the World Cup squad, but was deleted from this shortly before the start of the tournament.
