Daniele De Rossi ( born July 24, 1983 in Rome, Italy ) is an Italian footballer who plays in the Italian Serie A for AS Roma.

Career

In the club

Daniele De Rossi began his career at AS Ostiamare and plays since 2000 for AS Roma. He made his debut on January 25, 2003 in Serie A at 0:2 in Como. His preferred position is in central midfield in the national team he plays on the other hand usually on the left side.

In the National Team

2004 De Rossi was with the Italian team under coach Claudio Gentile U-21 European Championship and then was also in the squad of the Olympic team that won the bronze medal in Athens. He was also the Italian squad that won the title in Germany in the 2006 World Cup.

In the final group game of Euro 2008 against France De Rossi scored the 2-0 and was voted man of the match.

The Football World Cup 2010 was disastrous for the defending champions Italy. Behind Paraguay, Slovakia and New Zealand they finished after two draws and one defeat the last place in the group and was eliminated from the tournament. De Rossi played all the games through the defensive midfield and shot against Paraguay the equalizer for a 1-1 draw.

In the 2012 European Football Championship he became vice European champion with Italy under coach Cesare Prandelli. De Rossi played in the first two games first in the defense behind playmaker Andrea Pirlo. The rest of the tournament he was put in right midfield behind the strikers Mario Balotelli, Antonio Cassano and Antonio Di Natale. Despite the harsh 0:4 - final defeat against Spain, the tournament was considered a success for Italy. Due to its performance in the Euro 2012, he was elected after the tournament in the 23 -man UEFA All- Star team.

De Rossi's style of play is technically versed as described team player and combative. Furthermore him his heading ability is characterized.

At times, he fell on by unsportsmanlike conduct, he joined on 31 May 2006 in a friendly against Switzerland which lying on the ground Xavier Margairaz intentionally on the thigh, but was not penalized by the referee. In the preliminary round of the 2006 World Cup against the United States Daniele De Rossi received for an elbow strike against Brian McBride, who had to leave the pitch bloodied and stitched with three bites, the red card. FIFA saw on a longer period of Ineligibility, as De Rossi had apologized in writing after the game for his behavior. In the Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on 8 March 2011 De Rossi fell again with an elbow strike to the face of Darijo Srna on, which was not seen by referee Howard Webb and therefore not punishable.
