The general election in 2005 was the 65th election to the Danish parliament, the Folketing. It took place on 8 February 2005.

The choice was announced on 18 January 2005 by Acting Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen ( Venstre ).

The election resulted in no major changes in the parliamentary situation that the coalition between the Venstre and Conservative (the " UK Government") retained the majority together with the Danish People's Party. Despite huge voter migrations Det Radical Venstre could not gain enough seats to form a majority alternative with the government. For the Danish Social Democrats, it was a record defeat at the level of the general election in 1973, the so-called " landslide election ".

The Folketing 2005 election is also historic, as it is a Venstre Minister of State for the first time succeeded in winning a second election in a row.
