The winner was the third time in a row incumbent Anders Fogh Rasmussen. He is the first Venstre Prime Minister, who was re-elected for the second time. The existing coalition with the Conservatives with the connivance of the Danish People's Party could be continued.

Starting position

Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen called on October 24, 2007, from elections to renew the political mandate of his government for the upcoming budget negotiations. Venstre, conservatives and right-wing populists were in the campaign the bourgeois block while the left bearing of Social Democrats, Left Liberals, Socialist People's Party and Red-Green Unity List existed. It supported the candidacy of the Social Democrat Helle Thorning -Schmidt to the top political office.

Since both blocks of approximately equal thickness launched in the election campaign, the new party was New Alliance as tipping the scales. The New Alliance founded by the former left-liberal deputies Naser Khader. He let himself be prevailed until shortly before election day to a conditional support of the incumbent Fogh Rasmussen.

Results

While the Socialists were able to more than double their mandates, suffered losses both Venstre as Social Democrats. The left-liberals lost vigorously after an excellent result in 2005, in part due to the new alliance that could occupy the five seats. Right-wing populists and conservatives increased slightly votes. Total accounted for civic block 89 mandates, which meant the necessary absolute majority with the support of a bourgeois deputies from the Faroe Islands.

The Faroese selected with Høgni Hoydal ( Tjóðveldi ) a supporter of the Left and with Edmund Joensen ( Sambandsflokkurin ) a bourgeois deputies. The two Greenlandic members Juliane Henningsen (IA) and Lars Emil Johansen ( Siumut ) are attributed to the left bearing.
