Danish Handball League

The Håndboldligaen Men (full name after the main sponsor Jack & Jones Ligaen ) is since 1936 the highest league in Danish handball.

Course

The Danish Handball League consists of 14 teams who have to complete each of 26 games in the regular season. By 2006, after which the top eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. The No. 1 and 2 of the regular season then began the group stage with two points, 3 and 4 started with a point, while the fifth started with no points to 8. After six games the two group winners played from the master, while the runners-up played for the bronze medal. Both the final and the third place play received the "Best of 3" - series played.

From the 2007/2008 season, the four best teams in the regular season coming into the playoffs and play the semi-finals and the final. Semi-finals and the final will be a " best of 3 " series discharged.

The lowest placed team of the regular season increases from the second division and its champion rises in the first Handbold Ligaen on. The teams that rank 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 occupied be divided along with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th from the second division in two groups of four teams each. The group winners and runners-up are to qualify for the first league in the next season. The third of both groups play in up to three meetings from the last free place in the first league.
