Danishmend Gazi

Danishmend Ghazi 's full name Gümüştekin Danishmend Ahmed Ghazi or Danishmend Taylu († 1104), was the founder of Danischmendendynastie. After the advance of the Turks, the devastating beat the Byzantines at the Battle of Manzikert, the Danishmends controlled the northern and central part of Anatolia.

Name and Title

Danishmend Ghazi is known under different names. Since Danishmend Ghazi's son also Gümüştekin was said that the father is often called shortly Danishmend Ghazi and his son Emir Ghazi. Danishmend Ghazi is also sometimes occupied with the title Malik. The title Malik was awarded the dynasty until 1134 by the Abbasid caliphs of Baghdad. Nevertheless, the names of contemporaries and historians has been retroactively applied to Danishmend Ghazi. The title of Ghazi (winner) received Danishmend for his services in the war.

Some sources claim that the Danishmends were relatives of the Seljuk sultans.

Life

Danishmend Ghazi conquered the city Niksar and made this his capital. Later he conquered Sivas, Tokat and Euchaita. His empire was often harassed from 1097 of the Rum Seljuk Turks, only the occurrence of the crusaders led to temporary unity. During the First Crusade, the Crusaders threaten to march directly through the Danishmend Ghazi area. So Danishmend Ghazi participated in 1097 on Rum Seljuk side at the Battle of Eskisehir. Danischmends alleged grave is located in Niksar. He was succeeded by his son Emir Ghazi Gümüştekin.

Danishmend Ghazi was posthumously awarded the hero of the epic ' Danischmendname whose stories are mixed with those of the historically elusive Battal Ghazi. The individual stories of Danischmendname were collected only under Sultan Kai Kobad I. of rum into a book. The final shape was given the Danischmendname in the 15th century under the Ottoman Sultan Murad III.
