Danke Deutschland (song)

Thank you Germany is a song that was broadcast in 1992 by Croatian media and thanked Germany for its role in the international recognition of Croatia as an independent state.

Once on 25 June 1991 had voted for independence, the Croatian Parliament, urged Germany under Foreign Minister Hans- Dietrich Genscher speedy recognition of the Croatian state. At a meeting in mid-December 1991, the Foreign Ministers of the European Community agreed to recognize Slovenia and Croatia until mid-January 1992.

Composed by Đorđe Novković and put forward by Sanja Trumbić ago colorful backdrop song with a simple melody hit was sent on 14 January 1992 in the evening program of HRT. The German -language lyrics were written by Teo Trumbić and begins with the line "Thank you Germany, burning my soul! / Thank you Germany, for the gift of love. "

The song was not popular in Croatia and was only aired twice. Under some Croatian intellectuals and members of the public, the song was considered a sweet kitsch. In the Serbian radio and television, the song was frequently sent for purposes of counter-propaganda to expose the attitude of Germany to Croatia as a supposed revival of Nazi Ustasha Alliance. In the Serbian television the song to film the reception of German troops in Zagreb during the Second World War, was shown.
