Dannhauser (English Dannhauser Local Municipality ) is a town in South Africa's District Amajuba in KwaZulu -Natal. The administrative center of the municipality is located in the eponymous city Dannhauser. Bongekile Magdalene Shabalala is the mayor. The IFP represents the majority in the City Council.

The community is named after the German settlers Renier Dannhauser who purchased four farms in 1872 by the government. On one of the farms he was buried. Since then, the area Dannhauser were called. The municipality covers an area of 1516 square kilometers. 2007, the municipality had 91 366 inhabitants according to projections.

Geography

The Dannhauser municipality located in the northwest of KwaZulu-Natal. It is the southernmost of the three municipalities in the district. To the north it borders the municipalities of Newcastle and eMadlangeni. To the south lie Endumeni in the district Umzinyathi and Emnambithi - Ladysmith Uthukela. A short piece has Dannhauser border in the east, together with the Free State Province.

The majority of the Ntshingwayo Dam (also: Chelmsford Dam ) is located in the community. Part of the northern and the eastern boundary of the municipality are determined by the Buffalo River. In the community many rivers flow. The most important are the Ngagane and uMzinyathi. The N11 runs through the town. The R68 and R621 lead in the municipal area in the national road. Dannhauser also has connection to the railway line from Durban to Johannesburg. The most important places in the community are Dannhauser and Hattingspruit.

Economy

Dannhauser is a very rural community. Only 10 percent of households are in urban areas. Therefore, unemployment and poverty are also major problems. Two-thirds of the population are dependent on social welfare.

The main economic sectors in the community Dannhauser are agriculture and mining, but the latter loses after the closure of the mines is becoming increasingly important. In agriculture, especially livestock and arable farming is operated. In the tourism industry, there are some potential.
