Dannie Abse

Dannie Abse CBE ( born September 22, 1923 as Daniel Abse in Cardiff, Wales) is a British author and poet.

Abse studied after successful completion of the school in his hometown at the University of South Wales and at King's College London Medicine.

In 1954 he published his autobiography Ash on a Young Man 's Sleeve, in which he recorded his childhood experiences. He won the Welsh Arts Council Award and the Cholmondeley Award in 1985. Abse is in the British Poetry Society and is a member since 1983 of the Royal Society of Literature. Abse wrote several volumes of poetry - his first was in 1949 After Every Green Thing -, novels, plays and essays. On New Year's honor list 2012 he was also awarded the Commander's Cross in recognition of the Order of the British Empire.

Dannie Abse is the brother of the lawyer, politician and writer Leo Abse and psychoanalyst Wilfred Abse.
