Danny Barcelona

Danny Barcelona ( born July 23, 1929 in Waipahu, Hawaii, † April 1, 2007 in San Gabriel, California ) was an American jazz drummer. He was best known for his membership in the all- star band of Louis Armstrong, to which he belonged for almost 15 years.

Life and work

Barcelona had Filipino ancestry and was born in Hawaii; therefore he was later presented by Louis Armstrong as The Little Filipino Boy. At 18 and in his last year in high school was Barcelona All Stars early 1950s at Trummy Youngs Hawaii. Young recommended him in 1956 to Louis Armstrong; Barcelona was then Armstrong's drummer. In the fall of 1957 he moved to New York City and worked in the following years, with numerous recordings to Armstrong, as his hits Hello, Dolly! (1968 ) or What a Wonderful World and was at its world tours there. Only after Armstrong's death in July 1971 he returned to Hawaii back and had a long-term commitment at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel and worked in music stores. 1979 Barcelona moved again to North America and settled in Monterey Park ( California).
