Danny K. Davis

Danny K. Davis ( born September 6, 1941 in Parkdale, Ashley County, Arkansas) is an American politician. Since 1997 he represents the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Danny Davis attended until 1957, Savage High School and thereafter until 1961, the Arkansas AM & N College. This was followed up in 1968 to study at the Chicago State University. He finished his education in 1977 at the Union Institute in Cincinnati (Ohio ). In addition to his training Davis worked in several professions. From 1961 to 1965 he was employed by the Postal Service in Chicago. Until 1968, he taught as a teacher in public schools in this city. In 1969 he became managing director of the Greater Lawndale Conservation Commission. Between 1969 and 1971 Davis headed the training department of the Martin L. King Neighborhood Health Center, and from 1975 to 1981, the Westside Health Center in Chicago.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1979 to 1990 he sat on the city council of Chicago. From 1990 to 1996 he was a member of the County Council in Cook County. In the meantime, he was also a college lecturer. 1984 and 1986, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in each case yet. In the congressional elections of 1996, Davis was but then in the seventh election district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Cardiss Collins on January 3, 1997. After previous seven elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In his time as a congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell.

Davis is a member of the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and in four sub-committees. He is also the Chairman of the Congressional Postal Caucus. He also is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
