Danny Sapsford

Danny Sapsford ( born April 3, 1969 in Walton-on -Thames, England) is a former British tennis player.

Life

Sapsford began at the age of ten years with the tennis game. He attended the School of Tennis Lawn Tennis Association and won as an adolescent national U12 and U18 British title. The most successful he was on the Challenger ATP Tour, where he won eight doubles titles between 1994 and 1997. Of these, three on the side of Chris Wilkinson and Andrew Foster and two with Mark Petchey. With the latter, he also achieved his greatest success, winning the doubles title at the ATP tournament in Nottingham in 1996. His highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1996 with position 170 in single and in 1998 with position 83 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at Wimbledon. As a qualifier with world ranking 595 he defeated Julián Alonso and Galo Blanco before he smoothly in three sets against Pete Sampras retired. Following this game Sapsford announced his retirement from professional sport. In the doubles competition in 1998, he reached the second round at the U.S. Open. In mixed he stood twice in the second round of Wimbledon.

Sapsford played 1990-1991 three individual lots for the British Davis Cup team, of which he won two.
