Dante Bonfim Costa Santos, known as Dante, ( born October 18, 1983 in Salvador da Bahia) is a Brazilian football player who is under contract for the 2012/13 season at the Bundesliga FC Bayern Munich and is preferably used as a central defender.
Career
Association
Youth Opportunities in Brazil
1998 played Dante in Catuense Futebol SA, before moving to Capivariano FC 1999 Galicia EC and 2000. In 2001 he was in youth, 2002-2003 active for the first team of EC Juventude.
Move to Europe
In January 2004 he moved to France for first division club Lille OSC in which he was only twelve league stakes. In January 2006, he moved to Belgium to first division side Sporting Charleroi, a year later to league rivals Standard Liege, with whom he became Belgian champion in 2008.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
During the winter break of 2008/ 09 signed him the German Bundesliga and the time table Last Borussia Mönchengladbach to stabilize his defense, and endowed him with a four and a half year contract until 30 June 2013. In the Bundesliga, he made his debut on 20 March 2009 (25th Round ) in the 0-1 defeat at home to VfL Bochum Substitutes for Tobias Levels in the 67th minute. His first Bundesliga goal he scored on 11 April 2009 ( 27th Round ) in the 1-2 defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg reduce the deficit to intermediate 1:1 in the 79th minute. On 6 July 2010 he extended his contract for another year.
Dante was in his time in Mönchengladbach as performers; he was elected by the fans to the best defensive player of the season 2009/10.
FC Bayern Munich
For the season 2012/13 Dante moved to Bayern Munich, where he signed a valid contract until 30 June 2016. His first goal for Bayern he scored on 24 November 2012 ( 13th Round ) in the 5-0 victory at home against Hannover 96 the deficit to 4-0 in the 63rd minute. On the 28th matchday Dante secured with Bayern its first German Cup. When victory of Munich in the UEFA Champions League final in 2013, he caused a penalty, by the Borussia Dortmund compensated for temporarily 1:1. The finals of the DFB Cup against VfB Stuttgart 1 June 2013 Dante missed because of a shutdown for the Brazilian national team. Nevertheless, he won after his first season with Bayern Triple. In March 2014 he extended his contract until 2017.
National
On January 22, 2013 Dante was first nominated by coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for the Seleção. He made his debut on 6 February 2013 at the starting line of a 1-2 defeat in the Test International Match at Wembley Stadium against the selection of England.
At the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 Dante stood at a major tournament in Brazil's squad for the first time. In his hometown of Salvador da Bahia, he scored on 22 June 2013, the third group game, the 4-2 victory against the selection of Italy, 13 minutes after coming on for David Luiz with the opening goal to make it 1-0 his first international goal. Even in the semi-final against Uruguay, he was employed and won by a 3-0 final win against world and European champions Spain, his first title with the national team.

Others
His Afro look was in Mönchengladbach cult status. Many fans came regularly with " Dante 's hairstyles " or " Wigs " in Borussia - Park. After the Borussia had secured 25 May 2011 in the second relegation match of the 2010/11 season against VfL Bochum in the league, Dante had his head shave according to a previously delivered promise.
Dante supported the initiative as an ambassador respect! No place for racism. He is also since 2013 an international ambassador for the non-denominational charity SOS Children's Villages.
Immediately after the triple triumph of Bayern Munich in 2013, with the victory in the DFB Cup final, which Dante had to stay away because of the turnaround to Seleção, he sent a video message in which he congratulated and sang. The song was then added to the two tracks "We win the league " and " cup ... and also " remixed and released as a commercial download. The proceeds of this action gives Dante the SOS Children's Villages and the German flood victims. The two singles title reached number 88 and 79 of the German charts.
Dante is married and has two children.
