Danube (Paris Métro)

Danube is an underground station of the Paris Métro. It is located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The station is served by the Métro line 7 bis of the Paris metro system. The station is located at Place de Rhin- et- Danube. It is named after the river Danube. The station is run single-track, since the line is approached only from Pré Saint- Gervais. However, it was created for two tracks, which has resulted from the complicated building history.

The station and the Connect tunnel towards Buttes -Chaumont were built under the most difficult conditions. During construction of the route you came across old, abandoned in the 19th century plaster - quarries, which had to be crossed. The northern tunnel of the end loop of the line crosses the quarries under the Rue du Général- Brunet and Rue David - d'Angers over a length of 550 meters. In this area, they came across three layers of gypsum, some of which were all worn away, but sometimes only sporadically. The old quarries were more or less filled; a reliable bearing capacity was not given. It was therefore necessary to support the tunnel on firm ground, ie among the three existing layers. Some of the pillars reach a height of 35 meters and take the form of an underground viaduct on. This situation explains the difficulty to build on a solid base stations: The station Danube was therefore created for two tracks and station has two parts each for one direction of the track, which are separated by a central, acting as a pillar wall. This load-bearing wall rests on landscaped in three rows manhole rings that have another 2.5 meters in diameter and six meters distance. No fewer than 220 wells start-ups that reach a cumulative total of 5.5 kilometers, were established in this section.

The station was taken on January 18, 1911 Opening of the 7 line in operation. This perverse then to station Pré Saint -Gervais. In 1967 the route of the line was changed 7 and opens the new line 7 bis. Since then, on line 7 on the station Louis Blanc continues to La Courneuve. There, however, since there is also following the line 7 bis, so that the former range of the line 7 further has a connection.
