Danzandarjaa Monastery

Dandsandardschaa Chiid (Mongolian Данзандаржаа хийд ) is a Buddhist monastery in the province Chöwsgöl aimag in northern Mongolia. Chiid is the Mongolian word for " monastery".

Location

The monastery Dandsandardschaa Chiid is on the western edge of the city of Moron, the 1283 m asl is, on the road to the airport.

History

The city of Moron was in the 19th century an important religious center in northern Mongolia. The monastery was founded Dandsandardschaa Chiid 1890 and was originally called Möröngiin Khuree. Here lived up to 2500 monks and the monastery was, inter alia, famous for its tsam dances.

1937 Dandsandardschaa Chiid - like nearly all other monasteries and temples in Mongolia - destroyed - in the context of anti-Buddhist riots under the then party and government Chorloogiin Choibalsan. After the end of the Mongolian People's Republic in 1989 began immediately to rebuild. The reopening of the monastery was already in June 1990 instead, and the monastery, in the 40 monks currently live, is constantly being expanded.

Plant and buildings

That compared to other monasteries of Mongolia relatively large monastery complex is located on flat terrain on the western outskirts. The built at the entrance of stupas are visible from afar. In the middle of the complex is the highly frequented by the inhabitants of the city temple where the usual Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies are held daily, and the - is surrounded by flower beds - unlike other temples in Mongolia. Not far from accommodation for the monks as well as several outbuildings were built in different architectural styles. On the grounds of the monastery numerous high stupas have been completed, and several more are currently under construction - from this can be the particular importance of the monastery discretion.
