Darcy Lima

Darcy Gustavo Machado Vieira Lima ( the World Chess Federation FIDE Darcy Lima, born 22 May 1962 Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian chess player, functionary, editor and teacher.

From 1999 to 2005 he was president of the Brazilian Chess Federation for two terms. He initiated his presidency included a school chess program in order to make the chess sport for socially disadvantaged groups to access. He is the editor of the chess magazine Xeque Mate.

Achievements

In 1980 he won the Brazilian Junior Championship in Fortaleza. Three times he was Brazilian 's singles champion: 1992 in Curitiba, Brasília in 2002 and 2003 in Miguel Pereira, Rio de Janeiro.

In June 2000, he won the tournament zone of São Paulo. In the subsequent World Cup excretion in November 2000 in New Delhi, however, he resigned in the first round against Alexander Grishchuk.
