Dardagny

La Plaine

Dardagny is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland. It is located almost at the westernmost point of land and consists of the villages Dardagny and La Plaine and the hamlets Malval, Essertines, La Tuilière and Les Granges.

Geography

Dardagny lies on the border with France on the Rhone. Located at the Bach Ruisseau des Charmilles, it offers through its Château de Dardagny a romantic atmosphere that is unparalleled. At the edge of the village the Ruisseau des Charmilles flows past.

History

From the Neolithic period a hatchet was found. Finally, it is reported on the establishment of the Church of Saint- Pierre From the year 1093, which today is in the midst Dardagny.

In the year 1280 was Amyon de Dardagny, the first lord of the castle, knights and Kronvasall of Geneva, mentioned for the first time when he receives 30 books by a will. At this time, there are three powerful houses in the area of Dardagny: the southern house, represented by André de la Corbières, the northern house, represented by Michaud de Livron, and the central house, represented by those same Amyon de Dardagny. The reforms in 1536, the area passed into the hands of the Republic of Geneva to Château Vieux, Confignon and Dardagny. It was only in 1646 succeeded to the Geneva regent Amédée Favre to unite the two rulers again under his rule. Later, in 1721, bought a Dutch nobleman named Jean Vasserot dominion over Dardagny of the family Lullin which prevailed at this time over the area. 1904 the municipality bought Dardagny back the castle. It should be torn down in 1916 to build a school in his place, but the civic community rose up against this template. After another ten years of uncertainty, decided in 1926, the municipal council, the Cantonal Council and the Grand Council that the lock is placed under the protection and must be restored. In the following five years, the castle was in six stages renovated and reopened on 11 September 1932. On April 3, 1935, was officially declared by the Cantonal cultural heritage. Today, the castle serves as a school and town hall.

Economy

In the Middle Ages Dardagny was a winery and Müllerort.
