Dario Castello

Dario Castello (* before 1600 in Venice, † 1658 ) was an Italian composer and instrumentalist of the early Baroque music. He was influenced by the Venetian School.

Life

There is little written information about Castello, neither the year of birth nor the date of death. Various musical scientists suspect that he is identical with a certain Giovanni Battista Castello, the 1626 employment as a " Piffaro " got the Doge.

Only the front pages of the printed works give information. Here he is from 1627 as " Capo di Compagnia de Musici d' Instrumenti because fiato in Venetia " called, from the same year, he carried the title "Don". In the second collection, he is mentioned as " Musico Della Serenissima Signoria di Venetia in S. Marco, & Capo di Compagnia de Instrumenti ". From 1658 they named him as capo di già instromenti because fiato what made ​​it clear that his active career as a musician at that time was at an end.

In total there are 29 known of his works. His music is innovative, technically challenging and rich in contrasts. unusually large number of reprints attest to the popularity of Castello, for example, in 1658 the publisher Phalèse in Antwerp.
