Black eyes is an Italian- Soviet literary film by Nikita Mikhalkov from the year 1987. It is based on several short stories by Anton Chekhov, most notably The Lady with the Dog.

Action

Around the year 1911: In the empty dining room of a cruise ship, the Russian Pavel met the Italian Romano. Romano responded enthusiastically when he learns that his opponent is Russian, and invites him to his table. Pawel is newly married and with his wife on their honeymoon. Romano is an architect, married for 25 years but has not been seen for a long time his wife Elisa. He has a photo with him, the last happy day in 1903 shows his family together. He begins to tell his story Pawel.

Elisa comes from a rich family and lives in a palatial estate. Romano, who comes from a humble background, she has married against the wishes of their parents. Since the marriage Romano, however, has not worked, its construction projects are not got beyond draft and he has become accustomed to the luxury life of his wife. By windy shops her lawyer goes Elisha assets lost, what she learns on the eve of Romanos departure to a cure. The couple argues and Romano departs the next day without having spoken with Elisa. While nature of the place he begins a fleeting affair and soon gets a visit from his good friend Tina, who immediately recognizes that Romano and his wife did not remain faithful. However, they suspected an affair with a Romano at the time still unknown Russian who regularly lived with a dog on the resort area. Romano pretends that he had to because of a leg complaint to cure, and Tina supports him even though she knows that he is not telling the truth. When she has left, suddenly the Russian Anna is with her dog in front of Romano and offers him to support him. Romano agrees to their reports, however, that a friend was once healed by a Russian. You should tell him a Russian word - the word собачка ( sobatschka, dog), he talks to himself for so long, until he is suddenly "cured". Anna runs away screaming as he begins to dance. The next morning, the two meet again for breakfast and Anna's laughter releases the tension. Both spend more time together in the sequence, although Romano does not harbor serious intentions. This changes when he finds Anna crying and she claims to be so happy. Both spend the night together. The next morning, Anna is left. She has left behind a letter to him, the Romano does not understand because it is written in Russian. He returns to Rome.

Romano can be the letter to the University of translating and experiences so that Anna has fled from him because she is not free. She writes him that she is unhappily married and lives in Sysoyev. Romano realizes that he loves Anna, and travels to her. Prior to his wife, he admits to be traveling for work, but will be built a factory for shatterproof glass Tina's man in Russia. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to obtain a travel authorization after Sysoyev, Romano finally reached the village. Life goes on as it always ran.

Romano finished his story, which has happened eight years ago. Before Pawel he justifies his behavior towards Anna so that nowadays no one waiting for another. Pawel contradicts. He himself had campaigned for many years to his present wife, who was released only after the separation from her husband. They have always turned him down, but eventually agreed to a marriage, even if she could never love him, but he will be faithful. This had been enough for him. Production

Black eyes was shot for example in St Petersburg, Kostroma, Montecatini Terme and in the Cinecittà studios in Rome. The costumes created Carlo Diappi that Filmbauten come from Mario Garbuglia and Alexander Adabaschjan. The film experienced in May 1987 at the International Film Festival in Cannes premiered. He ran in the Italian cinemas on September 25, 1987. On February 4, 1988, he came to the West German cinemas and was published in the Federal Republic in January 1989 on video. Theatrical release in the GDR was on 18 August 1989.

It was the last film directed by Renzo Marignano, who died in the fall of 1987.

Also in 1988 Black eyes was nominated for a César Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani recorded from Marcello Mastroianni in 1988 as Best Actor Nastro d' Argento with.

At the ceremony for the David di Donatello in 1988, Marcello Mastroianni was awarded Best Actor and Best Actress Yelena Safonova.
