Darkhan-Uul Province

The Darkhan Uul Aimag (Mongolian Дархан - Уул Аймаг ) is an aimag ( province ) of Mongolia. It lies in the north of the country, nestled in an enclave in the Selenge Aimag.

History

The city of Darkhan was founded on 17 October 1961 as the second industrial center in order to reduce the population pressure on Ulaanbaatar. For this, the previous sum of the same name was released, and be subordinate to the territory of the municipality.

The Darkhan Uul aimag with its 4 Sum 1994 carved out of the Selenge Aimag.

Economy

Darkhan is the second largest industrial center in Mongolia. These include enterprises of light industry, food and building materials industry. Pioneers the Mongolian heavy industry is the built in 1994 Darkhan Metallurgical operation ( DMP), which produces 500 employees per year, 100,000 tons of cast iron and steel.

The Aimag itself essentially serves as the hinterland for the city.

Traffic

In Darkhan railway line branches off to Erdenet from the main line of the Trans-Mongolian Railway, which connects the northern Sukhbaatar on the Russian border with Ulan Bator.
