Darko Rundek

Darko Rundek (born 30 January 1956 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian rock singer, songwriter, poet and actor. His musical career began in the early 1980s as the frontman of the world music rock band front door. Since 1991, living in France, he took on albums with musicians from different parts of the world.

Front door

Doorway was founded in 1979 by Srdjan Sacher (Bass) and Darko Rundek (guitar and vocals ), together with Zoran Perisic (drums) and Ozren Stiglic ( guitar). Damir Prica ( Saxophone ), Nikola Santro ( Trombone ) and Zoran Vuletic (keyboards) supplemented the original front door occupation. They were one of the top bands in the rock scene in Yugoslavia and had numerous concerts in front of thousands of spectators. Reggae, Latin and African music were determining influences their distinctive sounds.

The band released four studio albums in the 80s: front door (1981 ), Treci Svijet (Third World, 1984), Bolero (1985) and Tajni degree ( Secret City ) in 1988 and three singles: Moja prva ljubav ( My first. Love) in 1980, Zima (Winter) in 1981 and radio in 1982, the live album ulje je na vodi (oil on water) was recorded in 1982 and released in 1995, 81 - '88 ( the best of ) appeared in 1995.

Solo career

Darko Rundek began his solo career in 1995 on the Croatian music festival Fiju Briju before an audience of 10 000 people, where he presented new musical material the following during the concerts he gave in Croatia, has been further developed.

With support from the record company Jabukaton Album Apokalipso ( apocalypse calypso ) in 1997 was completed. The album is stylistically diverse and the post-communist era treated with irony and poetry. Apokalipso was the music event of the year 1997 in Croatia. He won 5 Porins ( song of the year, hit of the year, Best Singer, Best Video Clip, Best Choral Performance) and 4 Black Cats ( song of the year for Apokalipso, best rock singer, best collaboration, best video clip).

The album U širokom svijetu contains more folkloric influences. Mandolin, bagpipes and tin whistle shape the eclectic style of the songs. The cooperation of the band was stable and she toured in Croatia and other ex - Yugoslav countries.

Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar

The album Ruke arose from improvisation and exchange with other musicians. A mill in Burgundy with a large collection of exotic instruments provided the perfect working environment. Isabel ( violin), Đani Pervan ( percussionist ), Dušan Vranić ( pianist ), Vedran Peternel ( sound design ) and Darko improvised in the converted water mill Isabel's on the edge of a small village. Documents the sessions were by the camera work of Biljana Tutorov, whose video projections also become a feature of the Cargo Orkestar concerts were. A year later the album was recorded and released simultaneously by Menart in Croatia and Metropolis in Serbia. Some songs were co-signed by various members of the group. The trumpeter Igor Pavlica, trombonist Emmanuel Ferraz and bassist Bruno Arnalund joined her firmly: On the promotional tour in 2002, the formation of the band was complete. The project will be different musical traditions influenced: Balkan music, Central European and Mediterranean music, reggae and also Latin American, Eastern European and African music.

In 2002 Ruke was published by Piranha Musik in Berlin. The live album Zagrebacka magla appeared in 2004 under the label Menart (Zagreb) and Mhm A- Ha Oh Yeah Da-Da Piranha music was re-released in 2006. In their concerts mix Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar new and old songs from their rich repertoire. An informal and open atmosphere characterize this.

Theater, Film and Radio

In 1982, Darko Rundek obtained his degree in directing at the drama school in Zagreb with his graduation film America Hurrah! by Jean -Claude van Itallie. He directed a number of plays ( They say the owl was once the baker's daughter; Three slaps, satires of Hecuba, No, Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh ) and also worked occasionally as an actor. He played for example, in Herman J. Burgerfor film Ruševine ( ruin ) with and was awarded as best male actor in Slovenia.

Darko Rundek wrote and produced a lot of film music. Between 1982 and 1991, Darko Rundek in roughly 50 radio plays and documentaries of Radio Zagreb director, for which he also wrote the music. Some of these works represented radio Zagreb at various international festivals: Prix Italia, Premios Ondas and Prix Futura.
