Darol Anger

Darol Anger ( * 1953 in San Francisco) is an American violinist who has worked across genres.

Work

Anger was the age of 21 a founding member of the Quintet by David Grisman, the folk, blues and jazz merged. Together with pianist Barbara Higbie he recorded the album Tideline (1982 ) Windham Hill. Two years later, brought the two Mike Marshall, Todd Phillips and Andy Narell in her quintet, with whom she appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival. By 1990, the quintet as Montreux was out and put several albums before.

1985 Anger was a founding member of the Turtle Iceland String Quartet, for which he also composed and arranged. Currently ( 2013) he heads the Republic of Strings, which he founded with Scott Nygaard. He also plays bluegrass in different formations, but also joined with Tony Rice, Stephane Grappelli, Peter Ind, Marin Alsop, Bill Evans, Nickel Creek, Chris Thile & Punch Brothers, Béla Fleck or Taarka.

Since 2010 he is an associate professor at Berklee College of Music.
