Darrell McCall

Darrell McCall ( born April 30, 1940 in New Jasper, Ohio ) is a country singer, who is regarded as uncompromising traditionalist. Undeterred by current fashion trends, it remains the classic honky tonk style faithfully.

1958 McCall moved with his friend Johnny Paycheck to Nashville. A first career as a duo attempt failed. McCall then worked for a time as a studio singer. After a short stint with the group Little Dippers he tried unsuccessfully a pop musician. In 1963, he reached a middle place in the country charts with A Stranger Was Here.

Darrel McCall retired a few years out of the music business and worked as an actor and rodeo rider. In 1968 he undertook a new start as a country singer and produced some fairly successful singles and an album. Already in 1971 was his musical career again interrupted when his record company did not renew the contract. In 1974 it went on in a new label. Again, only medium success has been achieved. Only in the years of the Outlaw Movement 1975-1978 McCall could push something in the foreground.

He produced until the mid- eighties with various labels singles, but also rarely came over # 50 on the country charts. His old-fashioned style - respected by critics and colleagues quite - was not asked by the general public. Darrell McCall can build a small but loyal following of hardcore traditionalists. His name has been in the country music scene a good sound.
